The Fourth of July means fireworks, and if you cannot make the show at the esplanade on the Charles River with the Boston Pops, then the South Shore is the Best place to see a show.
This writer is partial to being near the water or better yet to be on the water when you see the fireworks.
You can find a fireworks display all over the South Shore. Our favorite fireworks displays and bonfires are:
#1 Plymouth Harbor- Plymouth Ma
#2 Wessagusett Beach- Weymouth, Ma
#3 Abington Center- Abington, Ma
#4 Hingham Harbor- Hingham, Ma
#5 Rockland fireworks- Rockland, Ma
#1 Hanover Center- Hanover, Ma
This is only one bonfire, across from the town hall, but it is huge. Palletts are collected all year and stacked as high as a 3 story building and as wide as a baseball diamond. The band plays and you can bring the family with a blanket and enjoy the heat. You might start out close to the flame, but be prepared to move back.
#1A Marshfield beaches- Marshvegas Ma
The bonfires stretch for miles and miles, as the local residents empty out the house and throw everything including old furniture on the pile. You can stop at the end of any road with your cooler and be welcomed in by the friendly neighbors.
If you are not into fire and pyrotechnics, take the little one to a parade. While I am no fan of sitting on a sidewalk watching the cub scouts walk by with the vets and the local politicians, if this is your thing and you cannot go to Bristol Rhode Island, where they have the official largest, best and original fourth of July parade in the country, then try these locales.
